Monday Musing--color makes me happy
On an errand for my sister's blitzkrieg renovation project and move to the cottage a mere hundred yards away this spring, I stopped by Home Depot with all three kids in tow. In an attempt to make collecting kitchen cabinet catalogs and photographing backsplashes interesting and fun, I took them by the paint section. I let them scurry from Behr to Martha to Disney, considering their bedrooms, their belongings, what they might want things to look like in the room of their dreams. While I doubt I will ever be able to let Piper's room go that blinding, bubblegum TINK PINK or agree to the boys painting their room SHADE OF NIGHT (read: black) I wandered and picked up a few happy colors of my own.
I don't even know exactly what I am doing with these yet--so many projects, ideas, plans! Get up the nerve to give the boring kitchen cabinets a face lift and paint the walls bottle blue? Splash marigold on the white walls of the Spanish bathroom? Come up with something, a design element to anchor our languishing basement project?
As January winds down and everything outside is still powdered in white with more storms on the way, I can happily hunker down by the fire, fan out some paint swatches, or even the Gurney's flower and seed catalog and get positively drunk on color and project potential.
Plus it's always fun to see the look on J's face when he comes home to piles of paint chips, watch him blanche as he glances around surreptitiously to see if I have gone as far as gallons, tape, rollers or brushes.
Not yet, honey, but as more snowflakes fall, a girl can dream. Believe me when I say I dream in color.
