Favorites on Friday: Christmas and other seasonal holiday songs
Today at Hoffman Homeschool we're baking cookies to decorate with some of my kids' pals while doing Holiday Mad Libs (how many creative grammatical variations of the word 'fart' and 'diaper' will I let them get away with?) and Hayden just announced that in addition to leaving out cookies and reindeer chow, he thinks on Christmas eve, Santa would really appreciate a beer. (Actually, honey, it would be an ice cold glass of Due Uve, but I think Mr. Santa would take a gluten-free brew.) So we're definitely getting in the holiday spirit here, augmented by a steady stream of Christmas carols.
Each time a song comes on my three-year-old emphatically exclaims "This is my all time fav-o-rite song!" Which got us chatting about favorites. Here are my top three, in no specific order:
1.) J-I-N-G-L-E Bells, by Frank Sinatra and nobody else
2.) Oh Holy Night by most artists, except the ones who really wreck it with a lot of warbling
3.) Mary Did You Know? I like most versions, including the Kenny Rogers or Michael English one (NO to Clay Aiken's) but our town's mixed age choir at the Christmas Tableaux as people process to see the living nativity can move me to tears.
QUESTION: I want to know what your favorite holiday songs are...
